2020 Season Update

Dear NSELL Community:

Thank you for your patience while the league assessed readily available information and potential options for the season.  Due to Governor Baker's recent announcement, it looks likely NSELL will be able to put players on the field at some point in the coming weeks.  This is great news for all of us.  There are plenty of details yet to be resolved, however.  Start dates, distancing rules, et cetera, are all to be determined.  One possibility is a season running from July-ish into the beginning weeks of school.  This season would take the place of our traditional Sandlot program and, potentially, the Fall League (wherein older kids played against different towns).  Regardless, it is certainly exciting we see a light at the end of the tunnel.

In the coming days, the league will be sending out a survey.  We appreciate your families are in different situations with regard to the pandemic.  Some may be "all in" for the start of the seaon, others may be of the mindset there is no way their child will be involved in group activities this summer.  Refunds will be available for everyone who decides to take a pass on 2020.  Those who would prefer to "take the child but leave the money" will have an option to make a charitable donation.  And, anyone who needs a scholarship, for whatever reason, will have one available.

The Board will be following recommendations from various governmental bodies, in addition to Little League International.  We meet again in the first week of June to plan next steps.

Very best regards,

The NSELL Board

2020 NSELL Season Update

Dear NSELL Community:

The Board will continue to follow federal and local guidance with regard to athletic events and social gatherings.  While the "normal" season is in serious jeopardy, the league is still holding out hope the children are going to be able to play in 2020.  This may require an extended season, a summer season, or a fall-only season - we just do not know.  We recognize many families who ordinarily participate in summer camp will not be doing so in 2020.  NSELL would love to be able to provide a safe activity as an alternative to those whose summer now appears wide open.  All we can do is wait and see.

Some of you may have heard the unfortunate news Little League has canceled the 2020 LL World Series.  The annual event in Williamsport, PA, has always been a phenomenal showcase for excellent baseball and the joys of youth athletics.  Many of our "behind the scenes" operational processes rely on the same international organization - insurance being a major factor.  As Little League International provides more information regarding guidelines and alternatives for local leagues, this information will also be assessed at NSELL level.

At this point, we request that you stay enrolled for 2020.  If circumstances dictate the full cancellation of our 2020 activities, we will look toward making reimbursements in due course.  If your family has been financially impacted to the degree a refund of your tuition would be very helpful, please let us know.  We can place your child on scholarship for the year.  Our league is in a financial condition strong enough to support you.  The primary impetus behind "staying the course" is the logistical nightmare of unringing the bell and trying to get a season re-started after everyone unenrolled or received refunds.

Thank you for your patience while we wait for more actionable information.

Very best regards,

The NSELL Board
